Heartworm

I look forward to leaving
When my time is right
For at the end of these tunnels
There just isn't light
So I say my goodbyes
Sing my farewell
You keep your heaven
And I'll go to hell
there's a pit in my stomach
there's a hole in my chest
there's a blank space inside me
where I've laid to rest
all the dreams and ambitions
the hopes and fears
that I have amassed
in the course of my years
there's a breach in my brain
there's a worm in my heart
there's dead weight inside me
that'll tear me apart
with the collective strength
of all that I've lost
and all that I borrowed
without paying the cost
for that pit in my stomach
that hole in my chest
where even the worm
is denied its rest
where I have cast off
to leave it behind
farewell to the remnant
of my last piece of mind...

Ozymandias
04:45
|
|
||
The sand sweeps fierce across a face
That shattered in the desert lies
And that for years without a trace
Was buried far from prying eyes
Hidden from view, yet glaring still
Its stony mouth twisted awry
Faintly mutters prayers ill
Up unto a barren sky:
“I am Ozymandias, King of Kings
These great works here do testify
My might did soar on the Sun’s wings
Above a realm that shall not die…”
Yet no one hears the head decree
Its promise in empty expanse
Long gone the land and masonry
And on its might... falls not one glance.

Discarded

I hear screaming
Some floors down
A version of hell
Life is unfolding
Amidst tears
As it so often does
My chair spills out into a room
Where sunlight breaks the glass
Behind which the world seems
Almost tranquil in decay
As it so often does
The floorboards sleep
Under piles of ragged clothes
Once worn outside
Where suffocating
Did not feel so small
As it so often does
My chair spills out
Unto the pavement
In the middle of the street
A single breath discarded
Maybe lost, as it so often goes...
